Quantum Recast: Your Favorite Films, Recast In Different Years

X-Men - 2027: Days of Future MCU Cast

June 05, 2024 Quantum Recast Season 5

WHO will play the X-Men in Marvel's introduction of the team into the MCU?

Join Nick, along with Aly and Cass, on a special episode as we try to forecast the X-Men lineup for a future movie slated for 2026-2027. We kick things off by tracing the rich history of the X-Men, from their creation by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, through their transformative years under Chris Claremont, and the beloved 90s animated series that brought these characters to the mainstream.

As we navigate our personal connections to the X-Men universe, we appreciate the pioneering superhero flicks like "Blade," "Spider-Man," and "X-Men" that blazed the trail for the rise of the superhero genre. We engage in an impassioned discussion on our dream casting choices, offering a blend of comic book authenticity and modern acting prowess. From the frosty powers of Iceman and the time-bending Cable to the intellectual might of Professor X and the magnetic presence of Magneto, we present our picks and the rationale behind each choice.

Wrapping up, we delve into the complexities of casting of more iconic characters (so many X-Men!) like Storm, Gambit, Rogue, and the fan-favorite Wolverine. We debate potential actors, considering both established stars and emerging talents who could bring new life to these roles. Special attention is given to Cyclops, hoping for a representation that does justice to his character. Tune in for a vibrant conversation as we look ahead to the future of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond.

1997. Welcome to quantum recast. I am your host for the day. Nick uh cory is apparently off somewhere. He said something about going to 1973 to stop some future potential disaster. I don't know anyway, but he also said something about that. He didn't like x-men but, and so left it to me and I just said, okay, but I am joined today by ali dale. How are you?

Aly:

hello, I'm doing well. How are you?

Nick:

doing good and across not the pond, but across the united states. We have cas over here. How are you?

Nick:

I'm good welcome welcome back, welcome back everyone. Yes, uh, we are doing a kind of a mini, so to special mini sort of sorts. Obviously, if you clicked on this episode, you know that we are going to touch on the X-Men and what. Because Marvel bought the X-Men back with Disney money men movies again and we're like yes, so we are going to play a little bit of prediction here. We're going to try to guess who will be playing the x-men in a 2026, 2027, 26, you know 1997 to 2027. Just, it's again, I like the round numbers it rolls off the tongue easier.

Nick:

I've noticed that but so we're not saying it. It's gonna happen in 2027. I don't think they've actually set a proper date for it yet, but that's the idea. We're gonna take the heat going to happen in 2027. I don't think they've actually set a proper date for it yet, but that's the idea. We're going to take the heat, the stars of today and put them in the cast of tomorrow.

Cass:

If you will.

Nick:

All right. Anyway, if you are new to the show, if you've never been here before, this is what we do. We take movies and move them forwards and backwards, and now, super forwards in time time, we recast them with a new cast. Um, if you have enjoyed the show after this, you can follow us on all the social medias at quantum recast. We're on tiktok, we're on instagram, facebook, uh, twitter, x, whatever you want to call it. If you're still there, we are still there too, the one sane voice in a sea of madness. But anyway, um, we're going to just dive right in, because we have a lot of x-Men to cover. Yes, we do. If you've been living under a rock for the past 20, 30, 40, 50 years, you don't know what the X-Men is. I'm going to try to give you a bullet point. If you're looking for a deep dive into X-Men, this is not that podcast, I apologize. I'm sure there is a great YouTube video somewhere or a podcast that somebody will love to tell you all about it, but X-Men was created by writer-editor Stan Lee, of course, and artist co-plotter Jack Kirby.

Nick:

The team first appeared in the X-Men no 1 in September of 1963. They were basically created because of the success of Spider-Man, hulk Thor, iron man and Fantastic Four. Basically, he wanted to create another group of superheroes, but he just was lazy and didn't want to have to explain how they got their power. So he group of superheroes, but he just was lazy and didn't have to explain how they got their power. So he just said, what if they were born with it? I mean, it works, it works, um, but it didn't initially, so it didn't do super well sales wise. It was initially canceled in 1970 due to low sales and following its 1975 revival of the direction under chris claremont, it became one of marvel's most recognizable and successful franchises. Chris is really the one who kind of made what we know as X-Men today, made all the changes.

Nick:

A lot of the main storylines your Dark Phoenixes, days of Future Past come from his run in the 80s and 90s. Pretty much oh interesting, and from there you know they've appeared in numerous books, television shows, obviously the movies and video games. The team X-Men may refer to the team itself, but there's also just tons of spin-offs and stuff. Specifically, uh, the animated series was released in 92 and it ran till 97 and it was on fox's fox kid programming block, you know, back when they had saturday morning cartoons and it was cool and everything was great and that really, like you know, we we talk about iron man and thor and captain America. That's the MCU.

Nick:

Back then nobody gave a crap, nobody cared who they were. It was all about the X-Men. Specifically, your Holy Trinity was Wolverine, spider-man and Hulk in the 90s. But the X-Men were just that other cool team. They had the video games, they had this TV show which really helped bolster, I think, a lot of 90s millennial kids' love for the characters and obviously 90s millennial kids love for this, for the characters, and obviously it ran through 97 and I think that's what helped build the ability for them to make a movie, because fox 20th century fox, now owned by disney overlords uh attained the film rights to the team and other characters in 94 for 2.6 million a bargain, oh, wow yeah remember, remember before the mcu was, the mcu marvel was going bankrupt and they were selling off characters.

Nick:

So not a thing, not a thing. But uh, brian singer, a questionable, potentially redacted name. He's known for directing the usual suspects, but he was hired and did the first film in 2000 and its sequel in 2003 and the x-men movie series, I would say, has a lot of highs and lows. Um, if you guys would agree, you know you, for for those first two, you have the last stand and wolverine origins, and then you get wolverine, which was okay, you get logan, which was phenomenal, and then they had their spinoff uh prequel series, kind of with first class and days of future past, which kind of blended the two uh franchises together yeah um, it's just, it's spawned off multiple films, multiple spinoffffs of Wolverine Deadpool is technically considered a spinoff of this world because he was a 20th Century Fox character at the time and it all culminated or I would say crashed and burned, if you will with the last two movies, apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

Nick:

And then the standalone New Mutants concluded the series after a 20 year run. Yeah, so five years later, x-men 97 comes out. Everybody's like, oh yeah, this is what we love about X-Men. And then everybody's like, cool, thumbs up, let's make some more X-Men. And I think we've got the rights back and everything. So before we dive super into it, I just want to ask you guys what was your first experience with the X-Men? We're all different age levels here, so I'm just curious when you saw it, what you saw, what was your content?

Aly:

so for me it was, uh, definitely the x-men movie. In 2000, apparently, my brothers watched the animated series but.

Aly:

I do not remember that at all yeah um, but yeah, I remember going to the theater to watch the first x-men. Um, I think I've seen all of them in theaters until nice, until apocalypse, I think that's after that. It was like I don't know if I want to pay money to see these, but uh, yeah, no, I recently rewatched X-Men and X2, which I think it was my second time seeing X-Men, because I did not remember it at all. But X2, I remembered quite a bit, but yeah, that was my first experience with the X-Men.

Nick:

Yeah, so, cass, what about you?

Cass:

For me, it was something that my brother, my older brother, would watch, and I'd seen it in the background, but I didn't start watching it for the first time until maybe like 2018, 2019 okay um, and my main, or maybe 2020, but my main reason was for Iceman, who was played by Sean Ashmore, because I saw that he was in it.

Cass:

But then after that, I was like, wait a minute, I actually do enjoy these movies. It has nothing to do with his small character in the three uh, first movies and then days of future past, but no, that was the first time I ever watched them and I watched them all in order. I made sure to like buy every movie or watch it on disney plus prime you dove in, okay, I did.

Cass:

The only thing that I didn't end up seeing was the new mutants, but everything else I did make sure to watch, but no, that was the first time I've watched them.

Nick:

New Mutants kind of feels like the forgotten stepchild, redhead stepchild like the ship was already sinking, it had been delayed so many times, and it actually has a lot of stars we're actually discussing, like Anya Taylor-Joy's in it, maisie Williams, the guy who plays Jonathan from Stranger Things yeah, charlie Heaton yeah, charlie Heaton, but I think it was meant to be a reboot of sorts kind of spin-off, but by then everybody's like, uh, it's over and disney's bought us anyway, so uh, that that's where I think I why I didn't watch it, because I was like, what more can you do?

Cass:

like I felt like logan ended it perfectly and then you had, like you know, apocalypse dark phoenix. And then I just felt like dark phoenix was kind of confusing to begin with, so I was like it ended there. Why did we need the new mutants?

Nick:

sure, yeah, I think the x-men movies you can definitely kind of pick and choose which ones you want to consider canon or you want to watch like re-watching. I watched one and two and days of future past leading up and then x-men 97 obviously. But I was very much like you know. Other than a few kind of questions I would have in days of future past, this feels like a much better trilogy, if you will yeah, those are fun movies.

Aly:

I really enjoy the, the first class and and days of future past right, yeah, first class, yeah, I enjoy both of those.

Nick:

Those are fun yeah, my experience, like obviously grew up in the 90s I was aware of x-men again, my very sheltered upbringing. I I don't think I wasn't allowed to watch them, but I just assumed I was because they were that cool. I was like I'm probably not gonna be allowed to watch this, but I was aware of them. I was very much like the super nintendo psychogenesis games and stuff at the time the tv show. So when, when x-men the movie came out, I was like this is cool, like my uncle actually convinced my dad to take us to go watch it in theaters and it's probably one of my first like live action movies I saw in theaters. That was pg13 and up.

Cass:

Oh, that's cool.

Nick:

Big experience for young Nick back in 2000.

Aly:

Understandable.

Nick:

Understandably so. But anyway, like I said, we've got a lot of X-Men to cast. I'm sorry we can't cast all 100 plus of these. It's like Pokemon, there's too many, can't collect them all, sadly. But the goal here again is to cast them as if they're going to make when they make the movie, and we're kind of leaning more towards the idea that they're gonna lean into, like the 97 comic book accuracy of the characters. Right, because when x-men 2000 came out it was in a time you know, blade to come out two years before and it kind of shown like okay, there's some interest, there's some success that can be made with these comic book movies, because it was very hit and miss before that for every batman and superman you had just a spill of movies that just were not successful at all and it kind of started that first wave of comic books with spider-man, x-men, the blade movies, even hellboy can kind of get thrown into that mix as well.

Nick:

the fantastic four movies um, they're likable in their own way but they're not, not they're not, they're not top tier by any means, but that was the first way before we got you know, iron man started things off and the dark night kind of transitioned us between those two eras.

Cass:

Yeah.

Nick:

So, yes, it's a dream cast episode. We're not completely adhering to our rules because we don't know what movies people are going to be involved in in the next two or three years. But we're doing our best to try to not just be fan casty about it, where we're just throwing a listers at you and being like this is who I think should be and it's like, but they're not going to play the smaller role, a big cast kind of thing. I'm saying that maybe cast and ally actually did go that far and are just like throwing everybody at the wall I just I had fun with mine yeah I had fun with mine.

Aly:

I I'm yeah, I had a Cool cool cool.

Nick:

So, yes, we're moving to 2027, we'll say they probably will announce it. It might be later, it might be sooner, but that's what we're going to go with. So we're casting with people that are popular right now, that are acting right now. That's your general rules. Luckily, we have no kids in the movie. We have a potential teenager or two maybe maybe, and from there it's all free game, basically. But yeah, because there's so many, because we're trying to keep this light and brief for you guys as a mini, so we're just going to dive right in and we're just going to start off at the top and, like I said, there's tons of x-men. So we're actually start. Each of us have chosen an x-man. Initially I said pick whatever x-men you want and we're going to cast them. Each of us will cast one. But, uh, each of us are casting a different one. So I'm gonna flip an imaginary three-sided coin and cast. You're gonna go first. So tell me which x-men did you choose to cast for the open round?

Cass:

so I picked ice man just because of the fact that he is the one that I did lean more, more towards when I first watched these movies and I thought it would be kind of fun, because I really actually did like his character. I wish that he had more and.

Aly:

I feel like.

Cass:

Days of Future Past. Like actually did like a bit with him, like in the beginning and then helping with Wolverine and stuff.

Nick:

But I honestly forgot he was in Days of Future Past and I was like oh, sean Ashmore's there, that's cool. So Iceman also his real name, bobby Drake from Long Island, new York, in the comics. Uh, the voice actor Dennis Akiyama voiced him in the old X-Men series, but he's played by Sean Ashmore in the first two or three X-Men movies in Days of Future Past. This guy, in case you didn't figure it out, he has the ability to manipulate ice and coal by freezing water vapor around him, freeze objects as well as cover his body with ice.

Cass:

Like his first movie when he did the Frozen Rose.

Aly:

That was so cute.

Nick:

When Wolverine comes in and then second one is just like hey, uh, can you? First he's like you got any beer here. He's like it's a school dude. So he just gets a soda pop and has him, has him freeze it, freeze it for him. But uh, ice man's personality in the comics, uh, he's. They say. One of ice men's best pronounced personality traits is that he is kind of like the ice he manipulates. He's not cold, but he's transparent. He's devastatingly honest. He's very upfront with his emotions and his thoughts all the time. I feel like Sean did a decent job, kind of conveying that, given the limited capacity of his role in the movies. Yeah, that is kind of. The one issue with the X-Men movies is it is very much an ensemble comic, it's a team thing. But very clearly as we go further into the movies this becomes the.

Nick:

Wolverine show? Yeah, absolutely, and so a lot of characters kind of fall to the shadows because of it. But we get little glimpses with lovable, fun characters like this.

Cass:

Well, I think that's why it's hard making the movies, because you only get to see so many characters. That's why you said with Wolver, wolverine and even like Magneto, professor X, like you're just seeing these characters a lot. So then when you have smaller characters like Iceman, maybe even like Nightcrawler or anyone else, like it's just kind of you only get them for five minutes and then you're on to like Wolverine for the next 20 minutes.

Nick:

Right, yeah, and I mean that's just that just happens. It's you have your main cast, your main people, and then you have the supporting cast. It's just that with superhero movies, with x-men, you're gonna have a lot of very interesting characters. They all have their own superpowers and stuff. It is what it is. Yeah, um shot ashmore you don't know who he is, he really. This was kind of his big coming out uh movie. Before that he had appeared in anamorphs, if you know what that is, from the 90s. Oh man, later on he's in the disney channel movie cadet kelly so good. And recently he's just popped up in TV shows and stuff and done some voice work like in Alan Wake to the video game.

Cass:

Oh, interesting. And and man of Medan. Let's not, I will fight Ever If we didn't mention that one. Okay, and that one too, and that one too.

Nick:

I'm, I'm. How could I forget?

Cass:

Yeah, that old thing, that old, that old gym. Okay, cass, who is your ice man? So I went kind of a fun pick I this is what I was mentioning to nick the other or yesterday, um, that I was going to pick a supernatural actor, but I think it's just because I don't see him. It's not a, it's not a big actor. He has been in a few movies like edge of 17 and a couple of like little horror movies.

Cass:

Not a lot of people would know them but he plays as Jack Klein in Supernatural, so his name is Alex Calvert Alex.

Nick:

Calvert.

Cass:

And, if you want to be specific, alexander Calvert, but he I thought would be fun.

Nick:

What's his IMDB name? But I thought.

Cass:

Alexander Calvert name, but I thought alexander calvert. Yeah, I thought he would be kind of a fun pick because he's a lovable character in supernatural. He's done powers and stuff in supernatural. So I was like I wanted someone fun that he's only been known for jack but, I don't get to see him that much and it's not a whole celebrity crush, it's just the fact that I do like his acting. I think he does a lot, but he's been kind of like pushed into TV and kind of like smaller movies.

Cass:

So I thought he'd be kind of fun because I think he would do kind of the same thing that Sean Ashmore did in movies.

Nick:

Yeah, he's, he's in the the boy spinoff Gen V as as Rufus. He's in the Arrow show. Like as Rufus. He's in the Arrow show, like you said, edge of 17. Yeah, it seems like he's kind of been in TV, so this again it kind of lines up that this could be like here's the young guy, here's a chance for him to be on a movie.

Nick:

It's kind of the same trajectory as Sean Ashmore, even, even, like you, go further back to Bates Motel in 2013. So so, yeah, I feel like that's a logical like, yeah, let's give this guy the chance to play kind of the younger, kind of heartthrob, uh, iceman. He in the movies he's portrayed as the teenager love interest of Rogue, and I think in the comics he might be a little aged up. I'm not entirely sure. Again, this is not a comics podcast, this is a movie podcast. I apologize, but I get the logic that you're going with there for sure thank you but yeah and he's not.

Nick:

he's not super prevalent in X-Men 97 right now, but again, you make these movies and make more spinoffs. These favorites are bound to pop up in some form or fashion, for sure.

Aly:

Right, I agree.

Nick:

So, allison, yes, who did you pick for your character?

Aly:

I'm going to butcher. Oh well, first off, I chose Nightcrawler.

Nick:

Nice.

Aly:

I've always had a soft spot for Nightcrawler.

Nick:

Also, the opening scene in x2 is sick. It's chef's kiss like say what we will about. Redacted director of first two movies, brian singer. But dude knows how to make some action sequences. He's a pretty decent filmmaker. It's just a shame that he's a problematic individual yeah both can be true at the same time yeah, yeah, but uh, nightcrawler, uh, kurt wagner, as he's known in the comics, uh, rich from germany.

Nick:

He possesses superhuman agility, the ability to teleport the main thing there. Nightcrawler Kurt Wagner, as he's known in the comics, from Germany. He possesses superhuman agility, the ability to teleport the main thing there and adhesive hands and feet, and he has like a very blue skin tone. He looks very. People would probably consider him to look like kind of like a demon or a gargoyle or something.

Cass:

Yes, yeah, yeah.

Nick:

But his earliest comic book appearances he's depicted as kind of a happy-go-lucky, practical joker. He's a fan of swashbuckling fiction, I guess. But the other notable thing about nightcrawler is he's catholic and while it's not emphasized as much earlier on in in later depictions and the movies, uh, that's kind of like one of his prominent things. He's very vocal about his faith and you don't see that a lot between him and like daredevil. Those are the two main guys, but uh, he's a fun character, obviously it's. There's a reason. He's a fan favorite and yes, he was so great in number two and they and they wrote him off of three and put him in the video game with ice man. That's what they were up to. They were just in the video game man.

Aly:

It was so upsetting because I, like I said, I really enjoyed him in x2 and I think also, if I'm not mistaken, I just re-watched it, so I should remember. But um, he has scars all over himself because doesn't he? Cut himself every time he has a sin or something, or any time he sins. It's really interesting, he's a really interesting and compelling character and I always felt very sympathetic toward him For sure he's very likable.

Nick:

He's originally played in the 97 X-Men cartoon. He's played by Adrian Hugh voice actor, but in the movies he's played by Alan Cumming. Most people would know Alan Cumming from golden eye. He's kind of the tech bad guy kind of character. He said son of the mask as loki and he is kazoo kazoo in the flintstones.

Aly:

Viva rock vegas he's also in spy kids, isn't he?

Nick:

he's also in spice world oh, hey, there we go? I would. I would be feel like it's a safe thing to say that this is probably the peak of alan cumming's career, in my personal opinion, just possibly possibly, I'm not sure.

Aly:

I probably should have researched before I got here, but yeah, that's what I saw at least.

Nick:

But he's also played Nightcrawler's, played by Cody Smith McPhee. Yeah, people know him from let me in the road dawn of the planet of the apes and he voiced para Norman. But that was in X-Men apocalypse. That came out later. So once they brought in, hey we're at, we're at the eighties and nineties, we can bring back the original movie X-Men and they started pulling in nightcrawler and other people like that. But yes, nightcrawler, personal favorite right Scars on his sin, scars, rights.

Aly:

The sins on his hand, on his hands and stuff Um this actor's name that's what we do best here. 110 I'm usually pretty good with this, but this guy is uh german okay I was trying to with my casting choices. Just as a heads up, I was trying to steer away from marvel if as much as possible, but there's only so much you gotta do, you do your best yeah, and I tried to stay as faithful to like 97 and all of that. So this guy's name is michael graziati.

Nick:

I'm not sure I it looks like Graziati, which sounds very Italian.

Aly:

It sounds very Italian, but I'm sure I'm butchering it because he's German.

Nick:

Yes, for sure.

Aly:

He's mostly in TV shows and stuff. He was in American Horror Story Murder House.

Nick:

He was Jessica Lange's lover in that, the young boyfriend in that guy?

Aly:

Yeah, he was also in the Young and the Restless. He's just been in a bunch of other stuff.

Nick:

Yeah, yeah, that guy but he's appeared in uh, the most recent season of true detective jody foster. He was in uh lucifer, apparently for an episode, so another tv kind of guy appeared in the watchman tv series. So yeah, another chance for kind of like a character actor type to kind of get their shot yeah, well, and he's also in makeup too, the whole time you know, he's.

Aly:

He's all blue, so I wasn't too worried about getting the looks quite right he doesn't look like night crawlers me like him at all, but no, uh, yeah, I think that he would do a good job and, like I, yeah, kind of like what you said, um kind of give him his big break, maybe for sure, for sure.

Nick:

No, I like that choice yeah, I think that that's the thing. We're in america and it's such a pocket and there's so much cinema and actors that come from all over the world outside of there like michael was born in germany, um, and but, and sometimes you get those actors that are from other countries and they just turn out to be great. I mean, like the actor who plays hans landa in, uh, inglorious bastards whose name escapes me christoph waltz. Diane kruger was actually uh, who also is in movie.

Aly:

She's from Germany as well, I didn't know that that's interesting.

Nick:

So we got to look outside, guys, I know they're not going to be super memorable, but just trust us here. Okay, we're taking you on a ride All right, yeah, there we go.

Nick:

But speaking of casting choices, I guess it's my turn to go up. So he was initially not on our main list and I'm sure some people would be like, well, where's he at? Why did we cast him? Just to get it off the list here. We are not going to cast Morph and we're not going to cast Sunspot apologies to stans. Of those characters, we have a limited amount of time. We're trying to hit as many as possible, but I'm going with Cable.

Nick:

He appears in X-Men 97 this new season. For those of you uninitiated, cable is the son of nathan's uh, he's excuse me scott summers and jean gray's uh child. Uh, scott summers is cyclops in the original movies. Uh, he is born in the present day. This is where we get super sci-fi and comic book. He was infected with a deadly techno organic virus while still an infant, so they sent him with bishop into the future and he became, like the? Uh, basically an enemy of the villain apocalypse in the future. And there's there's a lot of post-apocalyptic, like doomsday futures in x-men, and so you have to remember, like okay, which one is he from? And that's the one with apocalypse. Uh, apocalypse was obviously the movie that came out a couple years back. Uh, he was played by oscar isaac, but originally the only person that has played cable in any live action movie was josh brolin, and that was in the deadpool two sequel he's such a babe in that he was fun uh josh brolin.

Nick:

Most of you know him as thanos from the avengers movies. He's also in no country for old men. As a teenager he was in goonies yep. More recently he was in the dune movies that have come out in the last couple years and also in things like true grit, w on and on a lot of uh oscar drama pieces and stuff. But uh, I was kind of scouring really quick to try to find somebody and I had somebody was like okay, this guy's kind of could play an aged war torn. The future is a mess and I have to try to fix it kind of character. But I realized I ran into the Marvel problem Allie.

Nick:

Yeah, I told you, it's not actually the Marvel problem, it's the Fox problem, because he is in X-Men Origins, wolverine Oops, the thing we don't really like to talk about.

Aly:

Oh, I don't know what you're talking about.

Nick:

So I'm picking Kevin Durant. Most people will know him from the most recent movie, the Kingdom. Him from the most recent movie, the kingdom of the planet of the apes. He was also in 310 to yuma. He's just a big character actor in x-men origins wolverine.

Aly:

He's the blob. Really, that's the blob. I didn't realize that was him and that's.

Nick:

I was like I had him lined up. I was like, oh yeah, he's kind of got to come up now. He's in kingdom planning. He does a great job as the villain in that movie. And then I was like, oh, he's the blob. That's right, fred Duke's the blob, but we're going to flex it because it's not like this, like treasured role or treasured movie. By any means. We're going to give him a chance to come back, because that happens in Marvel movies sometimes, where it was like, well, that was a small blink and you'll miss it character. So I just think he's going to be, because Cable is often portrayed, especially in the show and the comics, as this big buff dude who's?

Nick:

just very sizable and I was kind of like looking at other people and I was like we'll just go with Kevin Durant, it's fine.

Aly:

There you go.

Nick:

Not Kevin Durant like I said previously on 310 Duma episode, but Kevin Durant with a D at the end.

Aly:

Also, Nick, you just pissed off the like 10 Wolverine Origins fans.

Nick:

Oh, I know they're so upset.

Aly:

Yeah, more and more listeners.

Nick:

Still good to me. You just don't get it. You don't understand man. So yeah, kevin Durant, write him down. We're going to jump into our full on cast Now. Here, each of us are going to present an actor for these roles. We are not just passing around the actor casting at this point, but we're going to start big because, again, like I said, there's a ton of people and you really it's hard to even just put someone at the top of this whole list. But we're gonna start with the guy who kind of started it all, professor charles xavier. He is the leader of the x-men. You would say, yeah, uh, basically he's the guy who put it all together. He's a psychic, he has telekinesis abilities, he can read minds, he can control minds, which is kind of a big thing that goes on in those movies. Um, he is originally from the new york area, I believe, uh, but the character itself in the in the cartoon was voiced by cedric smith and ross mcquand of walking dead fame.

Nick:

Hey, aaron yeah, he's the guy that marvel goes to now when they're like well, that actor doesn't work with us anymore, so can you do a voice of them? Because he voiced Red Skull in Infinity War and he's gone on to do what's the robot character Age of Ultron? He did Ultron in the what If series, but in the movies he's played by Sir M McKellen, known for playing Gandalf mainly, and then also Michael Fassbender in the first class series of movies.

Cass:

Wait, wait.

Nick:

I messed up Back up. Sir Patrick Stewart plays him in the comics and James McAvoy. Sir Patrick Stewart, star Trek Next Generation, excalibur in the 80s, dune in the 80s and McAvoy Split Atonement, wanted, atomic Blonde, those type of movies.

Aly:

I love them Brill, split, atonement, wanted Atomic Blonde, those type of movies. I love them, brilliantly played by both, I would say I thought they both were fantastic.

Nick:

They did a great job casting both these. It's kind of like well, you had Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen.

Cass:

You can't screw these two up, so we got to get these two.

Nick:

But yeah, in the movies he's kind of more played a little more righteously Like he's just the very this exemplary character in the comics and tv show. You kind of get more the idea that he has a bit more of a humanity to him where he's yeah, he has a little bit more of a a selfish kind of mentality here and there in the in x-men 1970s, in space, like living his best life with his space girlfriend, potential wife. It's getting wild, yeah, but uh, we're just going to keep that rotation going so. So, cass, tell me who your Professor X is.

Cass:

Okay, so I wanted mine's a little weird only because I did struggle with this one, because I love Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy as Professor X. I think that casting was perfect for him completely.

Cass:

Yeah, but I wanted to go kind of. I wanted to kind of go into the Walking Dead route and pull some heartstrings a little bit, because when you've watched the first episode of X-Men 97, you've learned that you know Professor X has, in quotes, died. So I was like I like the idea of people getting upset over that, thinking oh, we missed, like this guy. So I went Steven Ewan, who is Glenn in the Walking Dead because I thought he would have a fun time with it.

Cass:

He's a lovable character person so I just was like I think he could do a good job. I feel like he wouldn't look so bad with a bald head, but I feel like it would be nice to see him in that sort of role, because Steven Ewan's been in what Minari, Minari Nope came out recently.

Nick:

Oh, that's right, Yeah's. He's made his appearances outside of walking dead on some tv shows and movies and stuff, but I feel like he's starting to kind of get those bigger roles like in minari and also in nope coming out here soon agreed so your cast he's.

Nick:

He's about 41 right now, so you're kind of casting them a little younger, not not james mcavoy age, but definitely like closer to middle age, I guess. Quote unquote but is your cast going to kind of skew that way? Are we going to see the rest of the X-Men be a little younger in your mind?

Cass:

My the X-Men, yes.

Nick:

OK.

Cass:

I think my Magneto is going to be that same age as Professor X, ok, but now everybody else is kind of hitting like 30 and then maybe a little bit 40.

Nick:

So cool, ok interesting, hitting like 30 and then maybe a little bit 40. So cool, okay, interesting, yeah, I think that's. The thing is that we don't really know what direction they could spit it on its head and go. Professor x and magneto are young. They're old again, so it's kind of all up in the air right now. So that'll be fun to in three years to watch this back and go. Who got it right and who got it right? Speaking speaking of our predictions ally, who did you have for professor?

Aly:

all right, so I had somebody written down, but I'm gonna go with my first choice. I did really struggle with this one, I'm gonna be honest. Yeah, but I did try to cast as close to the age. I can't remember if I already said that, but, um, you know what I want to give him. I know that he is incredible with all of his um voice work and stuff. I'm gonna give you Andy Serkis.

Nick:

I think that would be interesting.

Aly:

Yeah, I think that would be really interesting because, you know, give him more of a um, a a role, that where he actually it doesn't have to wear the dots all over his face, you know right um, I think that would be really interesting too. Plus, I think that he could have the key. I don't know, he just has such range um andy circus, I mean if you don't know him, but where have you been, gollum? He's caesar in the planet movies he's.

Nick:

He's the bad guy in the sequel series of Snoke, star Wars, which I my hot take of that, which there's plenty of Star Wars hot takes, but there's not enough. Andy Serkis live action because he pops up later in the uh Andor series and he's great in that. He wasn't he also he's in the prestige live action and he gets to really act and have fun in that. But I feel like had he been live action, just regular Snoke, because I saw like behind the scenes of him performing it with daisy ridley and I'm like this is so much more effective and you forget that's andy circus.

Nick:

Like having him be there, like and be prominent. Like you're missing some star power by hiding it's where it's like this doesn't work in this moment, yeah, so I kind of like that yeah, you balled him up a little bit.

Aly:

I think he would be great at it. He's also in 13, going on 30. How dare you forget him in that?

Nick:

Forgive me, I'm so sorry, I'm just kidding.

Aly:

No, but yeah, I think it would be interesting. So that's that's my pick for a professor. Charles Xavier, okay, I like it Very cool.

Nick:

Yeah, in the reshoots of the new captain america movie oh god uh giancarlo esposito oh okay, he's great I wanted him to get away from being a villain fair, totally fair like there's him and mark strong and a couple others like once they get thrown in, they're just like he's a villain and I'm just bored by it and totally fair and giancarlo's kind of at that point for me like he was in the mandalorian and stuff and he was in uh breaking.

Nick:

But I'm just very much like, can we please? And he's even in the Boys, he's a bad guy, oh that's right, we forgot he was in the Boys. I get it, Giancarlo. The money's coming in. You're not going to get all those type of movies every once in a while. Get your bag while you can.

Aly:

He does play them really well too, though sure but my pick.

Cass:

So pulling it out of the bag I'm getting, I'm just gonna give you sterling k brown oh, I was considering him.

Nick:

He was young ninjobu in black panther in a scene. Again, I'm bending some of my own rules that I was trying to.

Nick:

I was trying to adhere to it's hard but I feel like it's another one where you're like well, we could bring him around and be fine he's. He's about in his 50s at this point, but I feel like you could age him up if you wanted to, or bring him down however you wanted to. Most people will know him from the TV series this is us Yep. Recently he was in a Oscar nominated movie, american fiction from last year that I'd like to watch and other people.

Nick:

he's voiced in Invincible, the Amazon superhero series, and he's also in kind of a fun genre flick, hotel Artemis with Dave Bautista and Jodie.

Cass:

Foster. I like him a lot. Nick, did you know that he was also in Supernatural?

Nick:

I did not, Cass. I did not know he was in Supernatural. Is that how you know him, Cass?

Cass:

No, I've always known who he was, but it is funny seeing him in that. Was he a?

Nick:

bad guy in Supernatural.

Cass:

He was oh my gosh.

Nick:

See, that's what I'm talking about, giancarlo, come on, you're going to do the right thing. You can do other stuff, it's fun. Get your back, giancarlo, it's fine, it's fine, all right. Well, again, this is a Dreamcast episode, mini-sode. So there's no person sitting here making a choice amongst the three of us, so it's up to you guys in the future. So you just have to keep score, score and see what you think of what you like and let us know moving forward. But we're gonna move now into the guy I was talking about, kind of morphing with professor x, the best friend for life.

Aly:

They were friends alley dale they were, they were friends, they were friends.

Nick:

Magneto eric lencher or, as he was originally known, max einhardt. He changed his name, that's why professor x calls him magnus yeah, because he went by that and the whole. This whole thing happened where he had to change his name yeah basically, and that's why in comics there's name changes and stuff that happen all the time. That's probably why in the movies they were like let's just call him Eric, let's keep the the World War II origin and stuff yeah um, if you don't, if you're not familiar, magneto's the powerful mutant.

Nick:

He's played by M McKellen, michael Fassbender as a younger man. He's a mutant. He's considered one of those Omega level threats. An Omega level threat mutant is basically their power levels are so high that there's no way to properly measure it. So you get a couple of those in the X-Men world, but his power is as you could guess, it involves metal and magnetism.

Nick:

He's a master of magnetism. I'm going back to my stuff. He's regarded, as he regards mutants as evolutionary superior to humans. He rejects the possibility of peaceful human mutant coexistence. Uh, he's initially aimed to conquer the world to enable mutants um and he refers to them as homo superior to replace humans as the dominant species.

Nick:

This is, I believe, one of the things that was changed in the 70s and 80s just to really tie in the dynamic between professor x and him. A lot of people liken it, like, oh, they originally had Malcolm X and Martin Luther King and and while that's, I think, the idea with the 70s and 80s, I don't believe that was the initial idea from the offset when Stan Lee and them created it. But clearly those parallels are there and that's going to be their dynamic. It was in the movies to start with, because professor x has that more peaceful coexistence kind of mindset where magneto is like no, they're going to betray us, they're going to destroy us, we have to kill them while we can, kind of thing, and that's just kind of their dynamic through the whole movies, every movie you have them in, they're constantly at war with each other. Yeah. So you have to find somebody that's gonna bring that presence in that idea now in 97, as ali dale will will tell you he fans of flames for you, allie Dale, doesn't he?

Aly:

oh, magneto oh yeah, I don't know what it is. He's a baby in the animated series. It's the main, it's the flowing he's got white hair too.

Nick:

He's aging like a fine wine in the comments.

Aly:

I know and it's lovely.

Nick:

I'm not mad about it, I was gonna say anyone with white hair is gonna be fine okay, we've all learned something about you two today don't judge me and hear it in your voice well, ali, since you're, since you're uh thinking about magneto right now, tell me who you picked for him y'all, I messed up.

Aly:

This person's died last year. I have no idea.

Nick:

Well, well, while you're thinking for a moment, who are you thinking he would have been?

Aly:

so good too, ray stevenson.

Nick:

Oh he would have been so good as magneto I didn't realize he had passed oh, dang it, man. All right, you guys go ahead. Well, he just to quickly note ray stevenson rip. Uh, but he got to do like a great role as balan skull in ahsoka ahsoka, man, that's what I but dang it all right well, if you don't know him from that he's. He's been in other things like Thor. He was one of the the three best friends of Thor that I can't remember.

Nick:

Their bolt stags his name in the comics, but he's also in stuff like the three musketeers. He he was in RRR. If you love some Indian, uh, bollywood films, check that out. He was in Vikings, a tv series, for a few episodes. He's, he gets around. He's a good character actor kind of guy. Rest in peace, ray stevenson.

Aly:

So while I was figuring that out. Peace, I feel horrible about that.

Nick:

I will, I will I will fill in for you for this moment and give my pick. Uh, I picked uh one. Uh, you'll probably like this one too. Alley dale, I'm picking jason.

Nick:

Jason isaacs oh, I do love that's a great idea uh, jason isaacs played lucius malfoy in the harry potter movies. If you don't know, he was the bad british man in the patriot that mil gibson takes down. He's also appeared in other things like death of stalin, but he's also done a lot of voice acting recently, including balder's gate 3 for all you guys.

Nick:

Oh, interesting, gortash, enver gortash this was not by any means like a a quickly thought of thing. I've seen it on fan cast and stuff but I think that he's such a like. He's not like this A-list guy, but he's one of those that, like you're like yes, there's a reason people are bringing him up, because it just fits perfectly, and especially when you're thinking of long hair, jason Isaacs with white hair and you look at 97 X-Men, you're like yeah that's the guy that was a little much, but he was also a baby's hook.

Aly:

He was Captain.

Nick:

Hook in Peter Pan. Yeah, in the Peter Pan movie, yeah.

Cass:

That's like a perfect pick. That's a really good pick.

Nick:

Again, not entirely responsible for that one. The fans kept bringing it up and I was like I'm just going to use that because it's hard to find anything better. So, Cass, who do you have in mind?

Cass:

So I went with someone that I have recently seen in newer movies. So I'd like to say that I got a little bit of 2024 knowledge of this actor, but he's been in stuff like beauty and the beast. Um, I think he did a little in the ninth uh ninth museum secret of the tome okay and just kind of like smaller roles, like the rental. That was the Dave Franco movie that he directed, but I went with Dan Stevens oh, okay, okay who was in the more recent Godzilla versus Kong movie and then also Abigail he was the kooky kind of guy that flew the plane trapper trapper.

Aly:

Oh, okay, okay, yeah.

Nick:

Kong Godzilla.

Cass:

Go check it out on streaming now, because it's not in theaters anymore, because we don't do that anymore around here but I thought he would be a fun pick because, like, if we want it, as Ali was saying that that Magneto is a babe. I was kind of thinking along those lines for for Dan Stevens, because he can be, like you know, attractive, but also like a little charming and I want to see him more in that evil role. I like that so yeah he's 41.

Nick:

Yeah, he's around the age that you're playing with cast and yeah, he pops up in some horror movies and stuff. But yeah, he's the beast in beauty and the beast if you're wondering who he is. That's probably your best play, or the new godzilla kong movie yeah, but I can see that yeah, I could see that for sure, abigail. Yeah, that's probably a good one too.

Cass:

I have you watched that yet I haven't, but I know he has a very iconic quote that like I really want to see.

Nick:

Okay, yeah, that's, that's on my watch list, yeah I want to watch. It's the.

Aly:

It's the small vampire yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to see it.

Nick:

It looks interesting if you don't have a pick, ali dill, it's okay, I do okay it's not my favorite okay it's not ray stevenson.

Aly:

May he rest in peace damn man, I'm still really upset about that. Uh, I'm gonna do go mads mickelson, because the dude is really intimidating. Yeah. Yeah, that's good I like the idea of him. I think he would be really interesting as Magneto.

Nick:

I don't have many other notes other than that, because I was kind of my only note is he's also the guy I hope gets to play Dr Doob. He's not casted yet.

Aly:

No, but you're right.

Nick:

But you hope he hey listen, who knows what might happen.

Aly:

This is just going to be a loss on me that's on me, guys, this one's on me.

Nick:

That's on me. Listen, it happens. It happens on this show. Ash has done it, cast has done it, we've all done it.

Aly:

It's it just happens.

Cass:

I was so excited for that too that's all right I was gonna say ash has definitely done it where I had to be like hey, they're like 18 at this time.

Nick:

All right, we'll just keep keeping our pace light and brief. Here we've got. We still got a couple couple of cassie choices to go, but. But we're going to move into a lesser known X-Man Bishop. Yes, bishop Lucas Bishop. He was voiced by Philip Aiken and Isaac Robinson Smith in the in the cartoon. He was played in Days of Future Past by Omar Sy I think I'm saying his name right. He's not a well-known actor. He's appeared in things like Intouchables, jurassic World and Transformers the last night but I think he did a pretty decent job as Bishop in that movie. He didn't get a lot of lines or anything, but he just had the presence for sure.

Cass:

Right.

Nick:

If you're not familiar with who Bishop is, he's another X-Men from the future, but he's a member of, like this dystopian police force of X-Men. He travels to the 20th century and joins the X-Men. His ability is he possesses the ability to absorb energy. He has this gun that he can channel all the energy into. So there's a point where he's just sniping all these bad guys and stuff. In the movie, um bishop is an intense, dedicated, utterly serious soldier detective. Although decades removed from his jurisdiction, he's still a tough cop at heart. So that's kind of it's kind of the idea you got for for a bishop. Um, I'll go first on this one, since it's my turn, I think, um, I'm pulling somebody that has had, um, some leading roles in the past 10 years or so, but he's kind of just fallen off like I don't think he quite got to the level that he was supposed to get to, or people thought he was going to get to, given his namesake.

Nick:

So I'm giving you john david washington okay most people will know him from tenantet Black, klansman and most recently the Creator, which was a big sci-fi movie that just didn't live up to the hype, really, but it's cool. But he was also in Amsterdam the Ballers TV show with the Rock and also in Malcolm and Marie with Zendaya. So I just think I think he has a good presence to him. I just think he just never found the right vehicle to take off as an A-lister per se, and I think he has a good presence to him. I just think he just never found the right vehicle to take off as a of a lister per se and I think that this is a good chance for him to play a very notable fan favorite kind of character, um, and I think he'll just have fun with it.

Aly:

Yeah, I agree, I think that's a good, I think that's a really good pick.

Nick:

Yeah, thank you. So, cass, who do? That's who I went with too.

Cass:

Yes, nice.

Nick:

Across the internet.

Cass:

Hi Ali, something told me that you and I were going to pick the same one, like at one point. So no, that one, that one I just thought he would have like a really fun time with, because even when I like did watch like the first episode of the show, I was instantly like no, he's perfect for it.

Aly:

Like it perfect for it like it's just the energy about him and yeah, whatever your explanation is as well.

Nick:

Yeah, yeah, I agree, I think he could also deliver those silly lines as well, like the really cheesy fun little lines yeah well, yeah, good now. The interesting about him is that you know he had such a fallout with the star wars world. So I wonder, thinking realistically here is like will he be open to the idea of joining another Disney founded cinematic universe, kind of thing?

Aly:

Yeah.

Nick:

Who's to say. He seems like he's kind of going the opposite direction. He was in a really fun film a couple of years ago called they clone Tyrone, which was really. It was actually last year he popped up in the woman King. But it'll be interesting to see if he goes the more kind of smaller film route or if he dips his toe back into uh, big tentpole movies it's kind of unavoidable at some point as an actor.

Nick:

It's like yeah here's the money, here's where everything's going. This is where the jobs are at, so and maybe enough time has passed too by that point where it's like uh, I'll give it another shot different creative team different directors exactly hopefully so, because I like him a lot. I hope he gets to do yeah, it's kind of like him and Daisy Ridley. I'm like please be in more stuff.

Cass:

Yes, yeah.

Nick:

For sure.

Cass:

Agreed.

Nick:

Okay, now another fan favorite that popped up in X-Men, the Last Stand, the first time we saw him in live action. We're going with Dr Hank McCoy, himself known as Beast Yep. He was originally voiced by George Booza in the cartoons Excuse me, not the comics comics and then he was played by kelsey grammar yeah, of all people.

Nick:

It's a really interesting casting choice, but it works, but it works. And then later on, as a younger version, he's played by nicholas holt, kelsey grammar yes, kelsey grammar. You'll know him from cheers and the kramer the tv spinoff show. That's pretty much it. When people said this is gonna be played by kramer everybody, that's weirdly brilliant.

Nick:

Yeah, and I'm sure cory probably does love that character yeah um hol you've seen him in Fury Road about a boy when he was a child and warm bodies. He was a zombie and loves romantic zombie movie. It's out there, it happens. But Beast himself is from Illinois. They had this whole idea to put the X-Men in different parts of the world, which makes sense. Give it this kind of international flavor, if you will.

Cass:

Well and I think that made sense in the movies, because it's all like they're all being brought together to go to. Professor X's school.

Nick:

Yeah, but he was originally called the Beast when he was originally introduced. But it's basically his thing is. He has like ape-like superhuman strength and agility, oversized hands and feet. He initially does the whole Hulk thing where he turns into the monster, has trouble controlling it, but as an adult he takes on the Beast form. He's basically like Smart Hulk he takes on the Beast form and has this hyper-intelligence still. So let's go with Cass. Who do you have for Hank McCoy? The Beast?

Cass:

I did think about putting Dan Stevens here because I thought that would be kind of fun just with his voice.

Nick:

Boo.

Cass:

Boo. But, I went, I went, I went. Carrie payton, who is 52 at the time and he is the one that's ezekiel in the walking dead so spell carrie's name for the audience if it's, that's how you say it, but k-h-a-r-y carrie payton.

Nick:

Okay, from the walking dead. Yes, another walking dead pool for you.

Cass:

I only picked him because I saw him, like when I was doing like my cast search and I was like, oh, he has such a unique voice that I felt like it would fit Beast really well, because I feel like when I, when I was watching it, beast was just very like, you know, like greetings, and well, he didn't say greetings and salutations, he said salutations and welcome yeah, I was just like I could just imagine, like that voice with carrie payton, where he's just very lovable and just very intelligent and smart, so I just wanted that same vibe for beast and I thought harry could deliver.

Nick:

Yeah, interesting if you don't know, in the walking dead he plays ezekiel. He's the guy with the tiger, okay, and the long dreads and stuff. Very cool character, very interesting character. Other than that, he does a lot of voice work it looks like he's a cyborg. Oh, he's cyborg in the Teen Titans Go, oh, okay, interesting.

Cass:

Very fun.

Nick:

That's a fun pick. I like that. Now, a lot of people may not know because they didn't watch the Marvels is that Kelsey Grammer returns as Beast in the bonus? Yeah, we're not. We're beyond spoilers on this podcast. Apologies, but he pops up because one of the characters actually falls into another parallel universe where the X-Men are at.

Nick:

So it'll be interesting to see, obviously with Hugh Jackman coming back in, deadpool and Wolverine, yes, and it's like they're bringing in all these Fox heroes and stuff. So it's interesting to see what they're going to do with all that and how the multiverse thing works and, when they introduce their new X-Men, if they'll be part of the mainstream MCU universe or they're going to do their own thing. That's kind of. The problem is like there's so many characters it's going to be hard to like blend them into the MCU already.

Aly:

Yeah, for sure.

Nick:

But we'll see. We knew already, yeah, for sure, but we'll see. We'll see where they go with it. Ali, who is?

Aly:

your hank mccoy. So I I did mine based on voice, I did not do it based on on physical appearance. So just heads up on that got it um this guy. So I haven't seen him in a whole lot, but again I thought his voice, I thought it would be interesting um his name, and I'm gonna butcher this one too, because it's french let's butcher it. It's a reje. Jean Page, he will know him from Bridgerton and he was also recently in Dungeons and Dragons.

Aly:

I thought he would be an interesting choice and kind of like an underground name and kind of maybe gave him his big break. I thought that would be an interesting choice.

Nick:

In Dungeons and Dragons. He's just like the over OP character that just shows up to save them and they're like he's so cool and then disappears. It's like, no, I'm not gonna help you with anything. Yeah, I think it would be fun. I think it'd be a fun little choice. I like the idea. Yeah, especially now. Hank mccoy is a very american name now and I think he can do an american accent pretty well. Because I sit there thinking like well, he could do a the british accent and that sometimes translates for us americans like oh, they speak with a high british accent. That means they're intelligent. But obviously I think it's in my mind. It's like, yeah, let's do the american accent because it just fits the character well, nicholas holt.

Aly:

I mean he's british and he did the american accent, so yeah, those brits, they're just.

Nick:

They're just better than us at things when it comes to acting sometimes golly, no kidding so my pick, I went with an american. Okay, I went with john ham of madman fame.

Aly:

That's a good one.

Nick:

I think it just fits in the kramer brain I had in mind because, like he's a guy that should have been a bigger star, should have been, could have been like a superman or a batman or something um, but he was in the town with ben affleck. He was in the comedy tag, which looks really fun. I never watched it, but he has a an ability for comedy, like he popped up on SNL and can do really great stuff.

Nick:

He was in the Mean Girls reboot this year and then, uh, the last movie he kind of started was the Fletch reboot with Confess Fletch oh interesting that didn't take off at all no but he's done a lot of voice acting in between, but I think he has the size and also just kind of he can also do that proper kind of Hank McCoy doctor voice as well and I think he'll have a lot of fun with it. I went very, very Kramer with mine.

Aly:

Yeah, no, I like that. That's a really good choice. I like that too.

Nick:

And it's. It's fun in X-Men the last day and one of the notable good things about it was the dynamic between Wolverine and a beast and that's. That's not popped up in X-Men 97, but she's all over X-Men in the movies and the comics. She's also a very notable character in the First Class reboot. So our next pick we're going with Mystique. Mystique was voiced by Jennifer Dale in the TV show. Allie had a blank.

Aly:

Sorry, that was weird.

Nick:

But in the movies she was originally played by Rebecca Romijn and then played by Jennifer Lawrence as the younger self. Now listen, rewatching X, one to listen it's. It's hard not to say that Rebecca Romijn is a beautiful woman, because even when you throw all that makeup on her, you're like she's still stunning.

Nick:

Goodness, she's stunning, she's beautiful and she just for being a model, turned actressactress. She's only known for things like Femme Fatale. I'm trying to look really quick at what else she was a part of. She was in Rollerball, she was in the Tom Jane Punisher many years ago, before the Marvel Cinematic Universe popped up. But she's a decent actress and I think that people don't give her enough credit. I think she's starting to get attention in fancasts and stuff. The term mother is being thrown around a lot and so, uh, if that tells you anything it's the way you said it.

Nick:

It's the way you said it that makes you seem old nick. How else was I supposed to say? It was supposed to be like man. She's so mother right now, like no see, see, I did it right, I did it the right way.

Nick:

So, mystique, if you don't know who she is. She's the blue lady in the movies. But, to be more specific, she's a shapeshifter. She can mimic the appearance and voice of any person. Her natural appearance includes the blue skin, red hair, yellow eyes. She's been both a supervillain and an anti-heroine, but she's also, in the comics, been stated to be over 100 years old potentially, and nobody really knows where she came from. In the movie she's seen much more kind of played much more like, you know, young woman kind of role. Yeah, I, you know. For me, jennifer Lawrence never seemed to really nail it, that's fair, like I think she did fine, I think she did good, but they were also trying to like shoehorn in this whole idea that she grew up with professor X and all this because, like when you watch Days of Future Past, they have to really exposition dump to Wolverine.

Nick:

Yeah, you have to go find Mystique and stop her. We were best friends growing up but she ran away. You're like, oh, you've never brought this up before. How interesting. We fought her many times, but I think she's a big iconic figure of the X-Men movies and comics. I think she's a big iconic figure of the X-Men movies and comics. I think Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence do pretty good jobs. My leaning is always going to be Rebecca Romijn. Yeah, fair. Other people might know her as John Stamos' wife for a time, but they got divorced. Now she's her own woman by gosh.

Aly:

Oh, look at her go.

Nick:

Look at her, go, allie Dale.

Aly:

Yes.

Nick:

You're up to go first. Who is your mystique?

Aly:

So I went the beauty route. I'm going to be completely honest because I agree. I think Rebecca Romijn is just absolutely stunning. She is a beautiful, beautiful woman. I'm giving you Alexandra Daddario, so you will know her. She was in Baywatch. Apparently, she was in Percy Jackson, which I did not realize, and then, recently. It's White Lotus is what she was on, but I think that she could play mystique very well. I think she's also very beautiful. I think it would be interesting.

Aly:

Gorgeous yeah, she's stunning you're gonna hide those witch eyes from us but yeah, I think it would be interesting, I think it'd be fun. Yeah, right now, texas chainsaw. Yeah, texas chainsaw.

Nick:

Right now her big thing is the mayfair witches, this amc tv series that she's in. Okay, um, that's kind of what her big big deal is right now. But no, I agree 100. She's very gorgeous, she's she's kind of an underrated actress. So it'll be cool to see or kind of get whatever form she comes into this movie series um to see what she can do in that role, for sure yeah agreed, cass. Who do you have for mystique?

Cass:

oh, I thought it was your turn nope, I'm running the show um. This is where I kind of take someone that was in one of the x-men movies, but the you know redheaded stepchild one this is where I put anya taylor joy okay, because I thought she would have fun with the role of mystique sure I think, because to me she she's done a lot of, like, different roles throughout her career, so that's why I'm like I think mystique would be a really fun choice for her.

Cass:

She's beautiful in my opinion. Oh yeah, she listen any opinion that says she's not beautiful, they're just wrong.

Nick:

Okay, it's just wrong gorgeous um, she's beautiful.

Cass:

I think she could play a little bit of that evil role. I've seen her do it in peaky blinders and, yeah, I and she's been in a lot of stuff recently where you have, like you know, the menu doing part two Super Mario Bros, but yeah, Princess Peach. Okay, no, I can see it.

Nick:

She's an A-lister, so your money's going to go right there. But you better build the whole story around around some mystique mishaps going on in this movie it's fine okay. So I was, I'm torn between two people. Right now I have one that I feel like could be a really good actress but could still play it really well, and have one that's gonna fit it. Kind of lays in that same rebecca romaine of model turned actress.

Nick:

She's been acting for a while not the best roles and stuff, but just do what your heart desires, nick I don't know, I'm telling you I'm gonna go with a little more established actress name in case they want to do more spin-off work with her, because she's kind of a popular name mary elizabeth winstead she was.

Nick:

I was considering her, oh god I was too, nick dang you most people will know her from 10 clverfield Lane, scott Pilgrim, ramona, death Proof Live Free or Die Hard and recently, ahsoka. She proved you could be green and attractive. So she could be blue and attractive pretty easy.

Cass:

I feel like Nick keeps taking out the good stuff. Final Destination 3 is where I would know her from.

Nick:

Stop, it Stop it. She's also known in final destination kate birds of prey fargo, the tv show swiss army man, apparently uh-huh, mrs obi-wan herself mrs obi-wan kenobi, my other, my other option, sorry to cut you off. My other option I was thinking about was cara delavigne.

Nick:

Uh, you know her from suicide squad, valerian city of a thousand planets, paper towns she, she has the sex appeal down. I think it could really nail the whole thing that Rebecca Romaine was going for. But I feel like Mary Elizabeth Winstead can do that on top of if they were like we want a spinoff or we want more to do with her. I think she's going to be able to carry that a little bit better. Yeah, because she's perfect I stared at her for a solid 20 minutes earlier, wanting to pick her.

Nick:

Well learn something about yourself today. All kinds of things.

Aly:

I've already known.

Nick:

Well, moving forward, we have another female to cast real quick and we're going to cast Jubilee. Jubilation Lee is her name. In the comics. She is a character that was left out of all of the movies until apocalypse they finally stuck her into the movies. Okay, she's from Beverly Hills, california. In the in the storyline. Her thing is she has, like this, energy plasmoids. She calls them her fireworks. It's very, very just visually interesting, yes, but she, and in some comic forms she has like a shield she can put up for defense and stuff. She was introduced as an orphaned mall rat from beverly hills and she joined the x-men in the early 90s, becoming the teen's youngest uh member and often playing a sidekick role to father figure wolverine oh, that's cute so it and I yeah I think it's like she in the in the tv show uh x-men, the mnAN series.

Nick:

she's adopted and they find out when she reaches teenage years her powers come out and then she gets taken by this group and the X-Men save her. So she's kind of our eyes into the whole world, introducing us Kind of what Rogue was. So my theory, my hot take is I think in the 90s studio execs went we can't have a Chinese American as our lead actress in a movie yet, so we're gonna take rogue and make her that character and do that. That's. They weren't ready for jubilee at the time, but we're ready now yeah, I'm ready to throw her in and make her our fun character that everybody loves she's really cute.

Aly:

Yeah, she's a lot of fun. She's really cute in 90 in x-men 97 for sure.

Nick:

Um, I'll go off the bat here and again. We're in a time where we're still fighting those battles of getting minorities into more prominent roles in films, so it's hard to find a teenage Asian-American actress. So I was doing a little digging more on the fan casting side of things and what was suggested and I'm going to go with her is and I hope I don't destroy the name here, but Mamona Tamada is her name. She was in a reboot of the babysitters club. She's in the new avatar netflix as ty lee the the airbender, not the blue people to be clear okay and she was also in the spiderwick chronicles.

Nick:

Okay, so I'm trusting the audience here again. My knowledge of her is very limited, but if I keep seeing some fan castings of her, I had thought about jessica henwick, but she's 31, so she's not gonna be able to play like in my mind, the teenage that I was going for yeah, that's fair and that was kind of the same as I was going down the list of a lot of prominent the Brenda songs Stephanie, who of everything, everywhere, fame.

Nick:

You're on a sawai of Shogun. But I I've said, yeah, let's give her a shot, because sometimes you got to pick the out of nowhere actors to play these kind of big roles.

Aly:

I like that. I think that's a good choice.

Nick:

Okay, allie, who did you pick for Jubilee?

Aly:

Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off. How rude of me.

Nick:

It's okay.

Aly:

I went ahead and I cast Ariana Greenblatt, who you would know from Barbie. She was also in Infinity War, so she was in Small role. Very small role and she was wearing a bunch of makeup. She's also in ahsoka. Um, she just I really like her. She seems, um she's like an up-and-coming actress, um, and I I like her range so far she's. She's played a lot of iconic like younger characters.

Nick:

She's on the come up for sure. She was young ahsoka. Yeah, like you said, young uh gamora, and she's in barbie, the biggest movie of last year.

Aly:

So exactly, and I thought she did great. I I liked her and I think that she would have a lot of fun with this role.

Nick:

Yeah, I agree. I think that's a fun choice for sure.

Aly:

Yeah, I like it.

Nick:

Cass, who do you have?

Cass:

So I just realized that my choice was actually the one who played Jubilee in Apocalypse, and I didn't even realize it, but I did, oops. So we're just going to blend the worlds here. We're just going to say this Jubilee, you're going to stay put, don't move, yeah.

Nick:

So I'm going to pick one just right off the bat, to be clear, if I didn't say it earlier, lana Condor played her in Apocalypse, the X-Men movie.

Cass:

Yeah, so I'm going to I'm just going to throw this name out nakodi nakoda, who was in screen six, I think she, because I I had to just try to do it quick as you guys were going over your names. I think she would be a really fun pick.

Nick:

Play that like little fun role, that jubilee picks or um plays as but and say the name again, just for the audience uh devin nakoda devin nakvin Nakoda, okay so.

Cass:

Devin would be D-E-V-Y-N. Oh, okay.

Nick:

Yeah, spelled a little differently, but no, she's cute. Yeah, she was in the Scream series. Is she a one-offer? Spoiler alert.

Cass:

She dies in it. Yes, okay, got it. Well, that happens. You know, pick be energetic, loving, because even in that movie she played a very like upbeat she played the girlfriend of one of the main characters, so I think she would have fun with that role and just be yeah, yeah, uh, also voiced by allison court and holly chow in the uh animated series.

Nick:

But yeah, I feel bad for a lot of condor because she, she got, she finally, we finally got jubilee. She was in apocalypse and it's one of the worser-Men movies.

Aly:

It's not the worst one, but it's not the best.

Nick:

So hopefully we'll get some more Jubilee in these new X-Men movies for sure.

Aly:

Also just a quick side note. It's really weird that the last for Mystique her voice actress's last name is Dale and for this one it's Allison and it's spelled the exact same way as mine. That's super freaking out. This is so trippy man anyway, sorry, proceed you're fine, you're good.

Nick:

We're having, we're having crises on infinite earths here. All right, we're doing storm next guys, all right. Um, I don't know how to actually say her comic book name aurora monroe, I think is it.

Nick:

That's what it looks like uh I read she, the character, is born in new york, uh, but she is a tribal princess of kenya and an african-american photojournalist father. So she was. She was the mother. Yeah, storm was raised in harlem, new york and cairo, egypt. She became an orphan after her parents were killed. Um, the emphasis the incident kind of gave her some trauma. It also left her with some claustrophobia that she was struggling with. So that kind of helps build the character. She is an omega level threat.

Aly:

She controls storms, guys it's so weather, one of my favorites.

Nick:

She's cool yeah voiced by allison seely smith. She was played in live action by hallie berry and then, uh, alexandra ship in the apocalypse movie. Okay, yes most people. If you don't know hallie berry uh, she was in flintstones, die another day monsters, which she won an Oscar for. She did John Wick 3, more recently she was also in Swordfish was kind of a big movie for her back in the day. Alexandra's Ship was a Barbie. She was in Love, Simon and Straight Outta Compton.

Cass:

Oh, interesting.

Nick:

Did I miss anything? Any horror movies cast that Alexandra's Ship was in.

Aly:

No, I think you got everything. You missed Catwoman for Halle Berry.

Nick:

How much you thought it was that I don't know how we talked about that one.

Aly:

I'm just kidding.

Nick:

But no, storm, she's one that I feel like in the original movies kind of gets nerfed. Agreed Again, it's the Wolverine's problem, no-transcript. So it's cool when she does get to use her powers, like in the second one, when she just makes cerebro. The room that professor x is in just super cold.

Aly:

So it snaps out of that psychosis that he's been put in by the other guy on all the tornadoes too, whenever they're doing the, the chasing scene, yeah, and she gets to have a good she gets to have a cool moment in days of future, past too I was gonna say that too the sentinels for sure

Nick:

her scene was so sad though it was, and she just got, I guess yeah, there was a gasp moment, for sure, because they just fight him off and and the sentinel comes out of nowhere and just just yep, mercs her. And you're like no, halle Berry, no, please, why, god, why. But anyway, moving on to casting, I'll go first with this one. I think she's a singer turned actress. Most people have seen her in Glass Onion, moonlight, hidden Figures. I'm giving you a Janelle Monae that's a good one.

Nick:

I like that one more recently she's been in Antebellum, harriet and a couple TV shows, including Human Resources, but she's also dropped some, some albums here and there along the way. I just think she's got that presence about her because the thing about the storm that you notice in the comics is she's. She has a more regal sense about her. In the movies they definitely play off hallie berry strengths and make her more americanized and stuff, but I think in the comics and animated show that princess aspect of her comes out more, because in the comics I believe, if I'm incorrect, she does end up marrying Black Panther. Oh interesting. I don't know if they'll be able to do that at this point, anything's possible, but I think she'll just nail it. She just has a great acting ability and she has a presence about her especially and it'll be cool to see her just get to do crazy storm stuff yeah, that would be really neat yeah, for sure, cass.

Nick:

Who do you have?

Cass:

um, I did pick another screen person, but again, that was accidental. Um, this is who I picked right away for my storm, because I just I liked the idea of her. For this I went jasmine saveway brown, which she's in the latest screen movies, and you would also know her from yellow jackets she plays as oh I can't think of her name, ali.

Aly:

I know you watch it too yeah, I can't think of her name, but I know who you're talking about.

Cass:

But I thought she would be a fun choice because of she. I feel like yellow jackets would be a better description for her for this role specifically, because in scream she's just kind of like you know in college, a little about movies and things like that where I feel like yellow jacket. She has her serious moments where she wants to get things done, like she's protective. She's gonna want to get things done and I really like that actress and I would love to see her in that sort of role but, yeah, yeah she's, she popped up in, like you said, the scream movies that have come out recently.

Nick:

Yellow jacket seems to be the biggest claim to fame. Yeah, um, also was in. Uh, spider-man miles, morales, the video game which is a character named tinkerer, and then she's also in wolfenstein youngblood, so for video game fans, that's cool. So you're still going into that mindset of that. She's a younger x-men that's being trained up by professor x, so I'm starting to see where your cast is going for sure yeah and that's.

Nick:

And I think again, like we said, like that's kind of it's like are we going to have adult x-men or like are we going to have like the young again, kind of the young training? Because you kind of get that with apocalypse and dark phoenix, where they're young but it's almost like they're teenage young. Like here you're, I think you're going. It seems like you're going more like post-high school kind of age range.

Cass:

Maybe yeah, like it's at least like the mid, yeah, like I guess you could say like mid-20s Young adult. I would say yeah, yeah, for sure Okay, very cool.

Aly:

I like it Allie.

Nick:

who's your Storm?

Aly:

My Storm, so she was in Game of Thrones and it would be interesting to have her as Storm, and it's Natalie Emanuel.

Nick:

That was my second choice. Was that your second choice?

Aly:

Yeah, I thought she would be really fun and plus, give her a little bit more screen time, because I don't. She's one where I think she came out with a movie this year but I had never heard of it, and it's just like man. Give her some more stuff, because I really liked her as and I Missandei. She was incredible as it.

Nick:

She's also in the Fast and Furious movies. Oh, excuse me, my bad I don't know if she's in all of them. She was in Fast, I know, furious 7. She was in Fast X, so yeah, she's still going on. She's coming out in the new Francis Ford Coppola wild looking movie, megalopolis oh interesting. So she's going to have fun in a horror movie kind of concept.

Cass:

Yeah, agreed.

Nick:

But yeah, I'm down for more. Natalie Emanuel, for sure.

Aly:

I think that's how you say it. I like her, but I think it's Natalie.

Nick:

For sure. No, I think all three of those are solid choices and different directions. For sure I think Natalie is going to lean more towards the Halle Berry kind of representation and like Cass's pick will be more a little older version of what we saw in Apocalypse and stuff as well. Yeah, okay, this one's gonna be tough, I think yeah, gambit Remy Laboe yeah, voiced by Chris Potter, tony Daniels and AJ Locascio in the cartoon.

Nick:

He was played one time by Taylor Kitsch in Wolverine Origins. There was supposed to be a Channing Tatum spinoff Gambit movie. That never happened.

Aly:

Never came to be. I don't know how I feel about that. I don't either.

Nick:

Yeah, taylor Kitsch. You'll know him. He was in John Carter If you're a big sci-fi fan, but he's mainly known for Friday Night Lights, true Detective, season 2. And he was in the movie recently, american Assassin, which apparently, apparently, was better than expected. I didn't watch it, but I've heard decent things be said about it.

Aly:

I really liked him as Gambit too. I thought he was fun.

Nick:

I think that's the thing. Like, while he wasn't comic accurate, I think he did a decent job in that movie. It's just he was in that movie.

Aly:

He was in that movie.

Nick:

For those of you that don't know, gambit is from New Orleans, so he has that Creole or that kind of Cajun accent.

Nick:

Cajun accent. Thank you, his thing it's hard to describe, but he has molecular acceleration. So basically he can mentally create, control and manipulate kinetic energy. Basically you see him throwing cards a lot and he's good at handing in combat, but he's just known to charge the cards that he's has or an object or something. There's a really cool scene that I won't spoil in X-Men 97 that he does that. That I won't spoil in X-Men 97, that he does that he charges an explosive. Just know he's actually more powerful than he seems.

Cass:

Yeah.

Nick:

And I think in a new version of X-Men that leans into the 97 version. I think this can be like your next like big character, because he's a fan favorite. People have begged for him. He was always the cool guy in the games and the comics and the movies, so I think this could be a chance for somebody to get a like big breakout role here.

Aly:

Yeah, he's precious in the animated show.

Nick:

I love him. He's my favorite character, so well, since he's your favorite, you get to go first I get to have some fun with it.

Aly:

This person has a lot of range as well Logan Lerman, I think.

Nick:

So he's in.

Aly:

Perks of being a Wallflower. He's in Percy Jackson, he's in Fury, he's in a bunch of things like 310 to Yuma. I mean he's in a bunch of different things and I really like him as an actor. I think he picks really good roles.

Nick:

He comes off as like that teen heartthrob that's just going to be in a bunch of dumb stuff, but he makes good choices, he's got a good filmography, good agent, yeah, well done.

Aly:

But yeah, I think it'd be fun.

Nick:

Yeah, bullet train. I think the thing that he will have to overcome is that baby face look about himself.

Aly:

Yeah, because he's in his 30s. I mean he and I are the same age.

Nick:

It's weird to think about, about him being like oh you're, you're in your 30s now yeah, explains why you have a beard.

Aly:

That that makes a lot of sense now and it's kind of getting gray a little bit too in his beard, but I could see I, I would be willing to give him a shot, for sure I think it'd be fun I think he he could play it.

Nick:

He was one that I even considered for a minute as well um cass, who did you pick?

Cass:

well, and it's funny because I was thinking dylan o'brien which those two are like the two main ones that people look at, like Logan Lerman and Dylan O'Brien being the pretty white boys, is kind of what their name is.

Aly:

I know what you're talking about.

Cass:

But I did struggle with this one because I was just trying to have like a fun pick, but also someone that would be like pining for Rogue as well. Like I kind of wanted something like that yeah. I'm going to mess his name up, but he has recently been in a few decent movies. Um, the idea of you red, white and royal blue oh, I know who you're talking about bottoms I went nicholas, uh, gallets gallet sign okay uh, yeah, it's something like that, spell it out uh, g-a-l-l-i-t-i-z-i-n-e, maybe it's.

Aly:

Galitzine Purple Hearts Would that be it.

Nick:

I don't know.

Aly:

That's just a guess.

Nick:

We're great at naming names, yeah we are. He's in the trailer for this movie coming out with Anne Hathaway, where she's like dating this younger rock star guy.

Cass:

Yeah, that's, it's based off of yeah, okay, cool, cool cool yeah, I thought he would be kind of a fun pick where I wanted to see him kind of like, you know, in his moments where he's unserious but still kind of like funny, like like and cute around brogue and I don't know. I thought he would be kind of fun, especially since he's like kind of new and upcoming right now, yeah, that's a good pick it kind of reminds me a little bit of adam driver's uh filmography before he got into star wars.

Nick:

There's bottoms, there's uh red, white, royal, blue, like you said. Yeah, a lot of just tv shows and interesting like indie work going on. So I I don't know a lot about him, but looking at him it's like, yeah, I can see what you're talking about. Yeah, in his imdb picture he's being very, very like yeah the stare across the room yeah character which is kind of what gambit is he's?

Nick:

he's that loner type that's kind of like cool and confident all the time but kind of opens himself up to rogue. And that's where you see his heart kind of come out.

Aly:

Yeah, and I may or may not have watched the idea of you, but yeah, that's a good choice because he definitely can play like the. He can definitely play the part. I could see him being Gambit.

Nick:

Awesome, play the part. I could see him being gambit awesome. Yes, thank you. I knew that you had seen it. I didn't know if nick was gonna have any idea. Don't judge me, I'm not. That's on my list. I mean, why would I not watch it? Okay, so, like I was alluding to earlier, I think this is where you throw some money. Okay, I think this is the new, this is the role. This is can be what wolverine was to the original series of movies. Gambit, if you done right, can be what Wolverine was to the original series of movies. Gambit, if you done right. Can be that character, the breakout character that everybody loves and wants to dress up as, and it's like that dude's super cool which leaves. I was, I was teeter, tottering between two people, but I ended up going OK, if we're going to throw money at this person, it's Austin Butler.

Aly:

OK.

Cass:

I think I considered him.

Nick:

I can see that it's a little on the nose. It is the fan cast everyone talks about, but I think, like in terms of what I visualize as gambit being that cool character that speaks really cool, austin butler's proven he could do accents and stuff multiple times over. He's kind of a heartthrob, so I think he can play that kind of mysterious type of person. If you don't know who austin butler is, I'm sorry he was in dune 2. He's the crazy bald guy in that. He was elvis presley recently. That's kind of the main thing. But he also popped up in things like once upon a time in hollywood the dead don't die, and this year he's coming out in the bike riders with tom hardy.

Nick:

Oh that's right and jody comer yeah, so it was supposed to come out last year and then they delayed it and I was upset by it. But I do, I think this could be a role that could be a breakout thing for a star. He's already a breakout star, but I think it's a role that could be big. We could finally get some spin off or he could become somewhat of a focus, because the old ones were about Wolverine and Jean and Cyclops' whole dynamic.

Aly:

And I think if you want to freshen up the X-men, you focus on gambit and rogue.

Nick:

Yeah, I agree with that.

Aly:

Yeah, respect as their comic accurate selves so long as he drops the cajun accent, rather than, kind of like with elvis, he had the accent for like a year or two after the movie came out or something.

Nick:

It's like austin. I mean he's gonna be in like 20 movies, it's like successful, so he might be stuck with it for a while, oh my god, well, speaking of rogue, we're at that point, we're we're nearing the top.

Nick:

We promise there's only four people left of this giant x-men list. But rogue, if you don't know, she was originally in the first films. She was played by anna paquin. Most people will know her from true blood, but she, she was also in things like Trick or Treat. She got an Oscar the youngest actress to get an Oscar in the piano in the early 90s. Rogue was voiced by Lenore Zane in the TV show. She's from Mississippi, so she also has kind of that Cajun accent to her.

Nick:

In the comics, in the movie, again, like I said, they watered her down, they made her the teenager. They, again, like I said, they watered her down, they made her the teenager. They didn't give her a lot to do, but in her powers that she absorbs life, energy and powers and oftentimes personality actually. So sometimes she'll suck, she'll suck, she'll absorb somebody and kind of part of them will be a part of her for a while, depending on how long she's been in contact with them. Now, the thing that people will get confused about because even I got confused watching 97 was like wait, why can she fly? Why does she have superhuman strength and all the stuff.

Nick:

So in the comics and they covered it in the TV show previously she absorbs Captain Marvel's powers so kind of a big deal to maybe potentially steal. If they do that storyline where she could steal Captain Marvel's powers, it's possible. Or they could just build it in as like depending if it's a multiverse thing she could already have those powers. There's a whole trajectory they could go with her. So I'm really excited to hopefully see like an accurate comic, accurate rogue in these movies for sure that would be really cool yes, indeed, cass, I'm gonna go with you first.

Nick:

Who so?

Cass:

I had a couple. Oh sorry, who do you choose? I? I had a couple of people that I wanted for rogue. I just wanted to see, like, who would fit like not even the accent part of it, but if we wanted to go that way, I still think that this actress would do it. But I kind of went back and forth. I thought olivia cook at one point, because I thought she would have fun with that role, yeah I ended up deciding daisy edgar jones oh I was considering her, who is in the movie fresh um, where the crawl decks crawl, dad sing um also did the show normal people.

Nick:

Yeah.

Cass:

But I just thought she would be. I honestly just like how her energy wasn't fresh and how she could be for role for rogue Sorry.

Nick:

That's a pretty solid pick yeah. Yeah, I didn't think about her, but she's coming out in the new in the twisters movie, uh, in july. But yeah, I I think she I don't know, I don't know her outside of that kind of persona but it'll be. I think she's got a good look about her, that she seems to be a really good actress from what I hear and see yeah, I didn't finish watching normal people.

Cass:

It is a good show, but even like in that, like she's just kind of playing, like it's kind of like that love story, so I I can see her with gambit and doing a really good like duo. Yeah, I see that?

Nick:

that makes sense for sure. Yeah, ali, who do you got for rogue?

Aly:

uh, so I um. When I put this person down, I was thinking about who I cast for gambit and thought that they would play off each other pretty well. Uh, I'm bringing you l fanning, who is.

Nick:

Dakota Fanning's younger sister.

Aly:

She was in Maleficent 1 and 2. She was also in the Great and she was in Neon Demon. I think that she is. I like her acting. I think that she's a good actress.

Nick:

I think the breakout for her has been great.

Aly:

It's a.

Nick:

TV show with Nicholas Holt.

Aly:

With Nicholas Holt.

Nick:

Yeah, it's, yeah, it's a weird period piece, but it's also got like very graphic, if I'm not mistaken maybe I should watch this, um, but no, I think she, yeah, she seems to make a lot of interesting choices, acting wise, and so I haven't. I don't know what the accent thing is what threw me off of my casting for sure. So I was very much like I don't know, because rogue's very much a rebel character in the tv show and stuff. She's not the more quiet, mousy kind of character. There's some elements of the rebelliousness In the movies that we see, but it's never really fully formed, like you see in the comics and stuff.

Nick:

So this one was one of the harder ones I had to pick with. I had a lot of big names. I thought about it, alexander Daddario here. I even thought of names like Mia Goth, and I thought about Kristen Stewart. But Kristen Stewart says she'll never, she doesn't want to do Marvel movies. They'd have like she'd have to get like a good director to do it. So I'm like she'd be great. I don't think. But if I'm trying to predict something, she's not going to be in it. So right, my pick is going to be Margaret Qualley oh, she was one I was thinking of as well if you don't know her, she was in Driveaway Dolls this year.

Nick:

She, she was the hippie girl that brad Pitt picks up in once upon a time in hollywood. She was in poor things last year and she's going to be in kinds of kindness the same director, uh, this year. But she's been popping up here and there all over the place in the leftovers, the nice guys death stranding. She, I guess, played a voice character. She was in the netflix death note, I believe. So she's been on the come up. I mean, I mean, when you're Andy McDowell's daughter, you get those opportunities Nepotism. But she's proven that she's earned her way into this role and type of role.

Nick:

But I think she especially in Drive Away Dolls. That's much more of like a East Texas kind of like kick accent. But she's proven, she can kind of lean into that and has a cute sensibility to her as well. So I think she'll have a lot of fun with that role if she was to be picked for that.

Aly:

I agree that's a good one.

Nick:

Okay, we got three left. We're going to knock out probably the biggest name that everybody's waiting to see right now, actually, because, again, I don't know where this is all going to line up. The last three we have is Wolverine, jean Grey and Cyclops, but we're going to start with Wolverine, who's still played by Hugh Jackman.

Nick:

This year he will be played one more time and maybe more times, depending on where they go with all this multiverse stuff. But if you don't know who Wolverine is, he's a Canadian. In the comics he's 5'3" but in our movie, in the current movie, he's 6'2" played by Hugh Jackman, just muscles. He's an outsider, he's a loner of the group. He became the big star of the movies. Uh, any which way they could find a way to put him in.

Nick:

He has regenerative healing, retractable claws that get put metal on him. He's got a whole backstory that they dive into about it and he's kind of got the superman thing where, like in the comics, it's like they give him powers where they need to, so, like acute senses, strength and stamina, gets the. The power level gets changed depending. But listen, in the 90s he was the dude. In 2000s he was the dude. He's still the dude. So it's going to be interesting to see a what they do with him post hugh jackman, yeah, and where they go with it if they choose to be more comic, accurate and kind of get a smaller guy to play him. I'm interested to see what you guys do. Um, I guess I'll go first, since it's my turn, technically I don't know.

Nick:

I think we we've all, we've all hopped around a little bit but I'm just gonna throw you my opinion on it is I don't think he should be in the first movie oh, okay, interesting I think, this is giving friday the 13th, I think uh, I know, I know.

Nick:

I say he shouldn't be in the movie. I think he should be the tease at the end oh, okay, okay I think you build up everybody else, you focus on gambit and rogue, you get professor x and them established, and then he's, you get the whole idea of the x-men looking for more x-men and he's the next guy. Yeah, these the t's for the next movie, because we've we've seen wolverine, we love wolverine, we've seen all of it yeah, and it's, it's and first class.

Nick:

They gave us a break. He had a cameo in it so I think that you can. It's, it's oh. To really set it apart and to really be like this is x-men. This is going to be a different take. You tease him for later on and I couldn't find a great one, uh, in my opinion but I did find someone that I thought he could. He could do the job, I think. I think he could do it.

Aly:

I'm going with alden einrich oh he, I was thinking about him as well.

Nick:

If you don't know him, he was young Han Solo and deserved to be Han Solo even further, but Star Wars is afraid of people that aren't named Harrison Ford but he's also in Oppenheimer recently did a great job opposite Robert Downey Jr. You've seen him in Cocaine Bear.

Nick:

That was a fun movie, I think he just has a good range about him and I think he could also have some some uh grit to him and he could probably put on a little muscle. He's not a huge guy but I think he he's an actor. You can get him to shape up and he'd be great for the role. Yeah, yeah, ali, who do you got if you were thinking of alden, but who do?

Aly:

you, I was thinking of him. Um, so this one I thought would be good, because he does have a very intimidating looking face, and I think that's one thing with wolverine, as he's intimidating sure so I decided to go with wyatt russell. Oh, so he is in the only problem what is that he's in the captain america?

Nick:

yeah how could? A winter soldier? Yeah, but I see where your brain's at, I see where your heart's at wyatt russell. He, he's, he's really good he's because he was in. He was in the spinoff with uh, the godzilla spinoff, what's it called, I can't remember.

Cass:

He's also joined to jump street to name a few other things he was in night swim as well.

Nick:

Not to cut you off. I apologize, you're fine, I'm just trying to. I'm trying to ad lib here to give you some time here.

Cass:

Ally dale monarch is the tv series just she could keep it honestly, because we don't.

Aly:

I was so happy for that one. I was so excited you got.

Cass:

You got chris evans, as you know, johnny storm, and you know what that's america, but in the same universe, guys.

Nick:

That's all I'm saying.

Aly:

You know, man, I have a twin, and you know what's sad, I even wrote it down he was in the show and it just didn't even it didn't you're like yeah, I was like.

Nick:

Oh, yeah, he was in, that, sure, okay, yeah that's so funny. That's the Marvel problem. There's so much going on that you're like oh yeah, they were in that crap. But while Allie recuperates here, cass, who is your pick for Wolverine?

Cass:

well, I will admit, the person that I picked was in thor, love and thunder, but to me it wasn't as important okay because of the role that he played, ali might like this pick okay because I think she liked this character a lot in ted lasso. But I thought that he would be a really, really fun pick because I was trying to get that edge.

Cass:

You already know who I'm going with. Yep, I wanted that like tough look, the intimidating look, and that could almost give that same vibe as Hugh Jackman. So I went Brett Brett Goldstein.

Aly:

That's a good one.

Nick:

Brett Goldstein, or Goldstein, depending on who you ask. Yeah, no, I've seen him before. I haven't watched it last, so yet. But the look, he's definitely got a look about him and clearly he's got the hearts won over by some people.

Aly:

He is an absolute babe. I saw him in December his comedy act.

Nick:

So he's a comedian.

Aly:

Yeah, he does stand up comedy as well. Which?

Nick:

is interesting because Hugh Jackman's a theater kid. This is true. Nobody was going to put that on their bingo card. Hey, who's going to play this tough guy? That's a killer.

Aly:

That guy that was in Beauty and the.

Nick:

Beast. But no, I think that's yeah, he's got a good look about him and it would be interesting to see him kind of play that version of a character and it's like in ted lasso.

Cass:

He's like he's a little tough in ted lasso as well, where it's just he plays a good guy, but it's like still tough, still reserved I can just see that vibe for wolverine.

Aly:

That's a really, really good pick I really like that one I didn't even, he didn't even cross my mind. That's wild.

Nick:

Oh, he's crossing your mind right now.

Cass:

Well, I mean he crosses my mind, but oh because I was like looking at Letterboxd for like cast list and stuff and I popped on the Garfield movie and I saw but I was like oh wait a minute.

Aly:

That's a new character and then do nothing with it. Yeah.

Cass:

So that's why I was. When I saw that, I was like you know what? No one's going to think much of it, it's fine.

Nick:

You guys are breaking rules, all right.

Aly:

We're breaking the rules. Left him right here, guys, all right.

Cass:

I'm giving him something bigger. There you go.

Nick:

We're on the. Let's break these down. Jean Grey or, as some people call her, phoenix, dark Phoenix. She is a prominent character throughout all of the comics, all the movies, all the games. She was originally played in the TV show by Catherine Disher and Jennifer Hale. I don't know how to say this actress's name, but in the movie she was Femek Jensen.

Aly:

Okay, yeah, she's Danish.

Nick:

I don't know how you say her name and then later on played by Sophie Turner of Game of Thrones fame. Uh, jensen is known from GoldenEye, so she was Xenia on top oh my god if you remember, she's the one that crushes men and with her thighs.

Nick:

So if you have a death wish, I guess go hit her up. But she's also in House on Haunted Hill. That's another one of her things. But Jean Grey is an Omega level mutant. She has telekinesis like Professor X. She often struggles with her powers or is overtaken by other forces. In the comics the Phoenix is from space and then in the movie they just made it like it was this hidden power within her kind of thing. And you've watched Dark Phoenix cast. Was it a space thing that took over her in that one? Has it been too long? Did you erase? It's been?

Cass:

too long. I tried to erase as much as I could. It was just more of like I think she was influenced by a lot of, like, bad people that were trying to get her to like use her powers for yeah like bad, okay, but it was just for evil, but it was. It was a lot and sophie turner didn't do a bad job, but it was just not also the problem was we'd seen it before yeah I don't know why they chose to retread the whole dark phoenix saga.

Nick:

Because they did it. I mean, I guess they thought, well, x-men, last stand sucked, so let's try it again.

Cass:

But then it sucked again yeah, the problem was with the dark phoenix is again as we talked about, with mystique and professor x's friendship and then the things that happened in Dark Phoenix. Like spoiler alert guys Mystique dies in the beginning of Dark Phoenix.

Nick:

Yeah, that's wild. I need to watch this now just to be like how are they handling this?

Cass:

Yes, so what I read?

Nick:

because we talked about this the other day. It was like, how does this make sense? Because the thought was it all leads up to the original X-Men movies, but actually what happens is Days of Future Past creates a new timeline.

Aly:

Oh, okay, okay.

Nick:

So, like the original, x-men led to the events in the future and by changing it now, apocalypse and Dark Phoenix is the future. Okay, I was confused by that too, because I was like, yeah, that doesn't make any sense at all.

Cass:

Why would they kill Mystique? But it's still the point of like everyone is still all together, like if you have like Rogue and Iceman get together. So it's just. I feel like there still should be some sort of like falling out on Cause. I feel like there's something at the end of dark Phoenix. I want you to see it for yourself. Okay, if you watch it Cause, then I think you'll understand why I was so confused.

Nick:

Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. Well, cass, since you're the expert of dark Phoenix, who is your? Jean gray, I?

Cass:

I was actually really proud of this one. I got this one last minute. I went. I don't know if a lot of people are going to know who she is, but I'll be able to say what she's been in. But it's Riley Okay.

Nick:

Oh yeah, I know what you're talking about, riley Riley Keough.

Cass:

I think it's Keough Cause. I did actually look up the pronunciation, riley.

Nick:

Keough yeah Known she was one of the brides she's an american honey, daisy jones and the six daisy jones and the six. Okay, yes, that's a. That's that tv show. She's also logan lucky. If you've seen logan lucky, you should check that out. It's a fun one. No, she's, definitely she's. She married the guitarist from mad max fury road, the guy on the on the, the flame flaming yeah, and she's related to elvis press. Yeah, she's like his granddaughter or something. Okay, that's right's right. Okay, nepotism.

Cass:

I just thought she was a fun role because I have seen her in a lot of different stuff, like Daisy Jones and Six. I watched her in this movie called Zola. I think that's what it's called, and she just has this fun personality to her and I could see her doing this serious role of Jean Grey.

Nick:

Okay.

Cass:

She has the red hair for it too, so Sure, but yeah, I like it.

Nick:

That's a good one Very cool.

Cass:

Thank you, thank you.

Nick:

Allie, who do you got?

Aly:

This one's not in the MCU, I promise.

Nick:

I hope so. I hope Love it already. We'll see. Yeah, this is where I interesting, as as Jean Grey.

Aly:

I thought that would be a fun little pick, um. So yeah I am, I'm going with a little Olivia Cooke.

Nick:

Olivia Cooke's a great actress. Total, babe, total babe she's great in House of the Dragon, ready Player One. If that's where you know her from, she does a great job in all those things.

Nick:

I think she could. She could play a really good uh, jean Grey lead into the Phoenix, if they decide to tap into that at all. I think it'd be fun. My, I agree. I think both of those are great choices. If, whoever they end up picking for jean gray, I hope that it's. My hope is that they've moved past the idea like. The idea is that the phoenix thing's already happened and that she's a more confident version of herself.

Nick:

I'm seeing her and scott cyclops as, like the professor, parents yeah, in the world and that while she's still maybe messing with it, it's still this untapped energy that she can lean into. I don't want to cover the dark Phoenix thing again. It's totally fair, we don't. I don't want to see it again unless it's just like she has to tap into that power, basically. But it's she knows how to control it, kind of thing. We're moving past it. We're moving past the dark time past the trauma and I'm oh, that's a good one.

Nick:

People know her as dolores from westworld, she's in across the universe, she's the mom from frozen 2 and she's in the weird owl movie as madonna. Yeah, she is. I think she just has a great uh uh ability. Whether it's in musical form, whether it's in drama form or in sci-fi, like with westworld, I think she just is a great actress. She's obviously attractive. All these actresses are we're in hollywood, everyone's attractive but I think I just think she has the right uh, the right uh level of uh temperance, if you will like, as an actress, to kind of be that level-headed uh mother kind of figure to the rest of the x-men and then also like the supportive role for our, our cyclops. But then also, when push comes to shove, you're gonna be like you're about to see what I'm all about yeah, yeah oh crap yeah, you don't want to mess with her right exactly, yeah, I love all three of those choices.

Cass:

I think either there's there's strengths to all of them, for sure, I think riley definitely leans into that.

Nick:

The younger idea that you have cass, and then, uh, I like olivia cook, just in general.

Cass:

So I think you can trade her with evan and mine as well, I think, I think riley is only a year, a year younger than, uh, evan rachel.

Nick:

That's crazy, yeah, yeah okay, so the last one and I. The reason I put him at the top, cyclops scott summers, leader of the team of x-men, is because he, of all the people that got nerfed in the movies, I feel like poor scott got nerfed the worst yep yeah he was just a pushover yeah like re-watching the first two movies. You're just like man.

Nick:

They made you so lame yeah, they made you such a like and you've got hugh jackman wolverine over here being cool, so it's just like what can you do? But, man, james marston, I'm so sorry they did that to you and he that was like his breakout role too, like he goes on to be in hairspray and enchanted and you get to see like this guy has a lot of talent, he's great, yeah, and then he's, he's also in westworld. So I'm kind of in my, in my casting, I guess I, I.

Cass:

There's some connective tissue there but I'd like to think that days of future, past, at least, gave him something towards the end when he like was, like you know, like, all he does is come back to me like, hey, that's my girl but it's still at least like he's not put, like being a pushover, being like, oh you know what, screw it, wolverine, have her like just back to base form.

Nick:

Basically, he's just like oh whatever, I got my paycheck, I'm out, uh, but scott. So if you don't know who scott summers actually is, he's actually from anchorage alaska, in the comics oh he is the leader of the x-men uh, he's in a relationship with Jean Grey. His power he shoots beams out of his eyes. But, to be more correct, he's capable of generating concussive force-based red-colored beams. And that and you'll see in the show Allie, if you keep watching X-Men 97, has levels to it.

Nick:

And you'll be like oh, there's a reason. Scott Summers is cool, but they do such a good job in 97 of like redeeming him and reminding people like this dude's cool Like cause he has a captain America kind of very serious kind of about him.

Nick:

But and and like the dynamic when they have, like Nathan cable, the son being brought in, there's that family father dynamic kind of going on. He's an interesting character and I think my hope is that in this new movie he'll be given a lot more to do and flex in those in this movie, agreed, um, my pick for it. I'll just go right off the bat yeah is this is also. This is the other part I throw money at. He said he doesn't want to do big tentpole movies or marvel movies. But damn it, glenn powell, you were born to be cyclops, so you're gonna put on that visor and you're gonna like it because enjoy it. This dude's the next big movie star he's. He was in Top Gun, maverick Anyone, but you blew up this year with Sidney Sweeney. Twisters is coming out this year and he's got this hitman movie that's apparently going to come out. I hope it does. Well, looks interesting. But Glenn Powell, uh, sorry, bud, but you better start learning how to lead the x-men.

Cass:

He he kept. He kept popping up, like when I was on Letterboxd looking for stuff because there was like a lot of his movies like there was a movie that I watched that he was in, not even for him I watched for, like other people yeah, it's called everybody wants some yeah, yeah and it's like a movie that I didn't think a lot of people knew, because anytime I brought it up to people they're like what, what are you talking? What is this movie?

Nick:

it's the spiritual sequel to that director's uh other movie. That name escapes me. Right now everybody wants some glenn powell. It's directed by Richard Linklater, who directed the movies Before Sunrise. Boyhood, dazed and Confused is the movie. I believe that is a spiritual sequel Okay, interesting yeah. But yeah, that's a good one Glenn. Powell's my pick.

Cass:

He also has that face.

Aly:

He's got the face of being a leader of, like a superhero team?

Nick:

Yeah, Allie, who do you have?

Aly:

I'm not confident about mine. I'll be honest. I really struggled with this one because I was thinking glenn powell I can't remember if it was this one or another one but his name was popping up and I was like, oh, I don't know about him. Um, I'm not really happy with my choice, if I'm being honest, but that's okay, we're gonna do. Uh, jeremy allen, right, I think that he would be an interesting white. Is it white?

Nick:

I thought it was right oh my god I wrote it down wrong because I'm a dumb dumb yeah yeah, yeah.

Aly:

So he's in shameless. He's in the bear. He's also an iron claw. Um, he's been showing to have some range as well, and I think that would be interesting.

Nick:

Um, yeah no, I think that's a solid choice. I I think he. I'm wondering if he'll want to be in marvel movies which is totally fair. He's one of those guys that I'm like. Maybe money, but also he seems to enjoy doing smaller stuff and he was great in the Iron Claw.

Aly:

Yeah, he was really good.

Cass:

And I considered him a couple of times for this list, but I was like I feel like I have too much of a celebrity crush on him to pick him. I'm proud of you, as I technically picked a celebrity crush for Cyclops.

Nick:

We were so close.

Cass:

Yeah, I know close. I like Jeremy Allen White. I think he has a lot of range and I'm glad to see that he's getting the recognition.

Nick:

He could also be a good Wolverine.

Cass:

I could see that. I could see that too.

Aly:

I think he's got a lot of shorter side too, so it might work out.

Nick:

And he got Buff and Iron Claw.

Aly:

Dude's massive. There's no doubt about that. Sorry to get on a tangent that anyway.

Nick:

Sorry to get on a tangent, but I gotta write this movie down, sorry to interrupt.

Cass:

You cast, but who? Who is your pick? I'm gonna struggle with the last name, but I actually think it's funny with who ali picked for her. Uh, jean gray, just because I I I picked someone from bates motel as well, and it is an actor. He's mainly in tv, but he was in the movie called the Pacifier in the past. He was at House at the End of the Street with Jennifer Lawrence. I went Max Taryat, it's something like that. I always say Taryat, but that's not how you pronounce it at all.

Aly:

It might be Thoreau or something like that I don't know.

Nick:

I think you're absolutely right, he's supposed to lead the X-Men and you can't even pronounce his name. The he's supposed to lead the X-Men, you can't even pronounce his name.

Cass:

The shame of it all I have struggled with his name for years, like since being a fan, max Theriot, that would be my best guess yeah, theriot. Yeah, so Max Theriot.

Nick:

I recognize him now, yeah.

Cass:

He was in Jumper. Yeah, a lot of TV. Okay, I'm seeing it now, I thought he would be a really, really good leader.

Cass:

Leader and especially like, because Bates Motel didn't stick with like the Norman Bates story at all okay because he was pretty much his character was like Norman's half brother, so he still plays like a leading role, like being like the older brother. So I could see that, with Cyclops being the leader caring for Jean, I just think he would have like a really good time with it. I again I did consider Jeremy Allen White, but I was like, let me go with someone that really is not recognized as much anymore. He was more of a kid actor, yeah, and then now he's just kind of in TV, yeah.

Nick:

It'll be interesting.

Cass:

Yeah. No, I struggled with this one too, because I was in the mindset of like he kind of gives like that Captain America vibe in the show, yeah, and I was trying to find someone that would work perfectly. And I was trying to find someone that would work perfectly and I just I kept falling flat. So I ended up going with Max, just because I do like his acting this is all jokes aside about celebrity crushes, this is me being 100% honest, ok, I think he is a good actor.

Cass:

I think again he was just a kid actor.

Nick:

He did those small stuff. Give him a chance to be an adult actor now. Yeah, not do like these firefighter TV shows. Yeah, I think actor now. Yeah, and not do like these firefighter tv shows. Yeah, I think that the the thing that would give me pause with someone like that is. I think the issue with cyclops is that the danger is he becomes bland by being too much of a captain america knockoff yeah, you need someone with some charisma yeah, to like to really send that home and make sure that he doesn't get put to the background by a gambit or a wolverine or magneto and

Nick:

professor x or rogue even, yeah. So, yeah, those are interesting. You stuck to your guns cast, I'll say that, and he had some. Yes, what, what, but the fair thing, though, is like we have a lot of big names that have been tossed around, and the thing is that, with these, with these big ensemble casts, they do tend to pick people like this out that we may not be super familiar with, but you're like oh yeah, they were in that, that and that, so you might end up being more accurate than us, but time will tell it's still, but I mean, I think we all picked pretty like pretty solid choices for sure.

Cass:

So it's like with me I was more kind of giving people credit.

Nick:

That haven't really been in much, so I appreciate the thought yeah, you're giving them the reboot, the start, the chance to do more. Allie and I, I think, played more in like some reputable names or to people that are on the come up or stuff or that might need a reboot of sorts.

Cass:

Yeah down.

Nick:

So no, I think these are all interesting choices. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

Nick:

I think that's going to dictate a lot of the cast, for sure, in the direction that they go. Yeah, but that's it. That's our x-men. Uh, this is a long episode, yeah, uh, sorry, but there's a lot of x-men, so I'm not sorry about that. You wanted the x-men. We're giving you the x-men. There we go. Um, there's longer podcasts out there. I promise so, but we hope you enjoyed it. Let us know what your thoughts are. There's clearly too many people to run down the list, but we'll, maybe we'll post it somewhere. Probably not because I mean like that, but make sure to subscribe if you like the show. Cory will be back soon. We'll have other stuff going on this month, uh, but make sure to subscribe on here on whatever streaming app you're using. Be sure to follow us on social medias at quantum recast. We'll continually post what we're going to do next and tweet us your list. And tweet us your list. Tell us what we we like, what you didn't like. I like that.

Nick:

Tell us we're idiots, or tell us that we're great. Sometimes positive reinforcement it's really helpful.

Cass:

We're very sensitive sometimes.

Nick:

Sometimes, yeah, Very much so. Well, thanks for listening. Allie Cass, thanks for hopping on with me. We had a good time.

Cass:

Thank you, it was great.
